No New Cases - Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children Latest Update from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) - 25th January 2023

There have been no new cases of hepatitis in children of unknown cause since the update on the 14th of December 2022 from the HPSC.

This keeps the total of probable cases at 36 on the 25th of January 2023.

All probable cases are in children between the ages of 0 and 12 years of age, 35 of the 36 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.

There is still no single virus or source that can be identified to point to the cause of these cases of hepatitis in children.
