Astronomer Sebastian Voltmer recently observed a baffling celestial event while photographing the night sky. A mysterious object, moving at high speed, streaked past the Moon, leaving Voltmer confusioned.
"I can’t explain it," he remarked. "I was filming the moon, and suddenly I saw something fast and bright rushing across the screen."
Initial conjecture pointed towards the possibility of a satellite or space station, but such assumptions were swiftly discarded due to the object's unusually rapid pace. Additionally, the absence of a distinctive tail eliminated the likelihood of it being a meteorite. Even the International Meteor Organization failed to provide any records of shooting stars during the time of Voltmer's observation, further deepening the mystery.
Voltmer, ruling out the presence of flies or dust near the lens, estimated the object's altitude to be between 100 to 200 kilometres, suggesting it was in low Earth orbit. Despite his best efforts, the exact shape of the object remains indiscernible due to the blurriness caused by its high velocity.
"This is not the first time astronomers have observed unexplained objects near the Moon," Voltmer noted, referencing a similar incident in 2019 when the China National Space Administration captured footage of an unidentified object passing behind the far side of the Moon.
