Scientists Say They've Found The Most Likely Places To Spot UFO's In The US

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Utah sheds light on the geographical distribution of sightings of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs), commonly referred to as UFOs, across the United States. Led by geographers Richard Medina and Simon Brewer, the study aimed to understand how local environmental factors influence the occurrence of these mysterious sightings.
According to the findings, the western region of the US emerges as a hotspot for UAP sightings, with states like Washington, Nevada, and New Mexico recording the highest number of reports. Geographer Richard Medina attributed this trend to the historical associations of the West with UAP sightings, citing well known locations such as Area 51 in Nevada and Roswell in New Mexico.
"The West has a historical relationship to UAPs, Area 51 in Nevada, Roswell in New Mexico and -+in Utah we have Skinwalker Ranch in the Uinta Basin and military activity in the US Army Dugway Proving Ground," said Richard Medina.
The researchers analysed data from 98,724 sightings reported to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) between 2001 and 2020. They assessed two main conditions for each sighting, sky view potential, which considers factors like cloud cover and light pollution, and the presence of nearby airports and military bases.
"By examining the spatial distribution of reports and how they relate to the local environment, we hope to provide some geographical context that may help resolve or understand reports by both the public and in military settings", explained geographer Simon Brewer.
Interestingly, the study found fewer sightings in the southeast US and across the central plains, while noting credible relationships between clusters of sightings and commercial and military air traffic. This suggests that common technology may be mistaken for anomalous phenomena under specific conditions.
The research holds significant implications for identifying and investigating UAP sightings, whether they pose threats to national security or involve unconventional atmospheric phenomena.
