Canada's Chief Science Advisor, Mona Nemer, has revealed intentions to release a public UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) report by early autumn. Nemer addressed lawmakers in Ottawa, underscoring the need for enhanced gathering, reporting, and accessibility of UFO information for researchers and the wider public.

"I think that there is room for improvement in terms of the gathering, reporting on the information, and also making it available to researchers and to the public," Nemer told Parliament's science and research committee on Tuesday.

As the head of an independent office reporting directly to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, Nemer leads the Sky Canada Project. Launched in the autumn of 2022, this project marks the first official Canadian UFO study in nearly three decades.

"We should be on track for releasing the report at the end of summer, early autumn," Nemer stated during the committee meeting. "I think our report is going to be quite fascinating on the historic front, so stay tuned."

The Sky Canada Project has been in contact with counterparts in the U.S. and France and has been collecting information from various Canadian departments and agencies, including the Department of National Defence, Transport Canada, the Canadian Space Agency, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

"The enthusiasm or the responses have been uneven," Nemer revealed. "Sometimes the information is more complete or, you know, more cryptic than we'd like it to be, which is why in some cases, I will be engaging directly with the deputy ministers to make sure that we have the information that we need."

The project, also known as "UAP" (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena), acknowledges the seriousness of the subject, echoing recent U.S. congressional hearings and official reports from NASA and the Pentagon.

A dedicated webpage for the Sky Canada Project describes its mission: "The Sky Canada Project was launched in the Autumn of 2022 to study how Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) reports from the public are managed in Canada and to recommend improvements."

It is important to note that the Sky Canada Project is not designed to collect first-hand data or prove/disprove the existence of extraterrestrial life. Instead, it supports citizen science and aims to facilitate the collection of observations documenting rare natural phenomena.

Chief Science Advisor Mona Nemer emphasized the thorough approach taken by her office, ensuring that recommendations will be based on the best evidence and interactions they have had. An earlier presentation in February 2023 had initially projected the public report's release date for winter or spring 2024.

Conservative parliamentarian Larry Maguire, a vocal advocate for UFO transparency, sees the Chief Science Advisor's project as a signal that various stakeholders can no longer ignore the UFO phenomenon. Maguire emphasized the importance of providing the Chief Science Advisor's team with access to all existing data for a comprehensive investigation.

The committee meeting marked the first public discussion of the Sky Canada Project since its launch almost a year and a half ago, shedding light on the government's commitment to addressing the UFO phenomenon with transparency and a scientific approach.
