The 28 day cycle is a theory proposed by Ed and Lorraine Warren that it would take on average 28 days to fully crack open and solve the secrets of a haunted location.

Ed and Lorraine Warren, also known just as, The Warrens, are probably the most famous paranormal investigators to have ever walked this mortal realm. Ed who was a self taught and self professed demonologist and with his wife Lorraine who was a self professed clairvoyant and light trance medium, they allege to have been involved in some of the most interesting and scary paranormal cases since the paranormal field has been around.

In 1952, the Warren's established the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), as well they stated that they had solved over 10,000 cases with varying degrees of success.

A nice chunk of the cases that the Warren's looked into were turned into massively popular movie franchises or stand alone movies. For example there is Annabelle, The Conjuring, The Nun etc.

Aside from all the cases the Warrens looked into and all the movies made based on these cases, the Warrens believed that there was a 28 day cycle, almost a rule or set standard as to how long, on average it takes to get to the bottom of and solve the secrets of a haunted location.

Ed and Lorraine claimed that to be able to fully uncover the secrets of a haunted location, the paranormal investigators must stay at the location for a minimum of 28 days, during this time, the paranormal investigators must not have much external communication and must work to try and resolve the secrets of the location as best as possible.

The Warrens explained that the time would be far from easy, due to the fact that usually paranormal investigators would spend a few hours or even a couple of days at a location to establish a connection with reported spirits. However, the Warrens believed that such an extended stay would agitate the supernatural elements at the location, particularly those of malevolent nature and over time, the veil between the realms of the living and the dead would get thinner before becoming virtually non-existent during the last few days of the stay at the location.

Unfortunately the Warrens never had a chance to prove their theory before they both passed.

With the Warrens passing to wherever we all go when we separate from our mortal coil, their son-in-law Tony Spera took over as the curator of the Warren's Museum and as Co-director of the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) with Judy Spera as Co-director who is married to Tony and the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

With Tony and Judy at the helm they put the effort into trying to test out Ed and Lorraine's 28 day cycle theory in the form of a big brother style reality show on Netflix called 28 Days Haunted where three teams of paranormal researchers go to separate locations that are reportedly to be haunted.

No disrespect to anyone involved in the show but the show did not come across well at all, it was as 'good' as the show Big Brother but with less lighting and a scary back story (the reality show Big Brother isn't good in our opinion).

Apart from the Warren's most likely using the 28 day cycle theory we haven't heard of any team or individual paranormal investigator testing or trying out the Warren's theory, maybe post the release of 28 Days Haunted show on Netflix the theory will have received more publicity and we might hear more cases where it it tried in the future.

Regardless of what has been done in the past with regard to the 28 day cycle theory, we would be very interested to see a very controlled and fully documented experiment using the Warren's 28 day cycle theory and to see if the Warren's truly last experiment helps nail the coffin in what the truth behind the paranormal experiences investigators go searching for night after night are.
