A new feature-length documentary examining the Rendlesham Forest UFO sightings of 1980 is set to premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on 24 and 25 June.

The film, produced by Matt Lee and Roderick Godman, explores the widely reported incident that took place near RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk on 26 December 1980. Several United States Air Force (USAF) personnel reported seeing strange lights and a metallic object in the forest, which was adjacent to a NATO airbase. The incident has often been referred to as "Britain’s Roswell."

Narration for the documentary is provided by actor William B. Davis, known for portraying the Cigarette Smoking Man in The X-Files.

Director Matt Lee, who has a background in science, said: “We’ve tried to keep an open mind. There are a lot of very credible people who witnessed something they cannot explain.”

The documentary includes interviews with original eyewitnesses as well as individuals who have reported similar phenomena in the area more recently. The filmmakers employed various investigative tools, including metal detectors and dowsing rods, during their exploration of the site.

Described as a “sensational UFO road trip movie,” the documentary blends on-site investigation with accounts from those who experienced the event first-hand. According to the filmmakers, the aim is not to prove or disprove alien involvement but to present the facts and testimonies associated with the event.

The Rendlesham case involved reports of a craft descending into the forest and sightings of unexplained lights over two consecutive nights. Some witnesses described a triangular object moving at high speed, estimated at over 3,200 kilometres per hour, while others claimed to see markings on the ground and damage to nearby trees.

Over the years, a number of theories have been proposed to explain the incident. These include the possibility that witnesses saw lights from the nearby Orford Ness lighthouse, misidentified bright stars or meteors, or were affected by stress and confusion during night-time exercises. Some have suggested the event may have involved secret military testing, though no conclusive evidence has emerged to support this.

No definitive explanation for the sightings has been confirmed. Official military reports noted the event but attributed it to possible misinterpretations, such as lights from a nearby lighthouse or natural phenomena.

Tickets for the Raindance Film Festival screenings range from approximately £10 to £17 (around €12 to €20).
