Irish Citizen Accused Of Being National Security Threat In Australia

Reports are coming out of Australia that an Irish Citizen has been accused of being a national security threat after the countries security agency carried out an operation targeting Russian intelligence officers working under diplomatic cover.

Marina Sologub contacted Irish consular services with regard to the accusations.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Michéal Martin, said that it was a matter for the Australian government as to their own security concerns.

Mr. Martin said,

"They don’t necessarily contact us in respect of security concerns they have or in respect of deportations they make in respect of security concerns,"


It was reported in The Sunday Times that Marina Sologub has been accused of,

"potentially posing a direct or indirect threat to Australia's national security"


Marina Sologub is a consultant in the Australian space industry, she was born in Kazakhstan but grew up in Glanmire in County Cork and she studied at University College Cork.

Marina Sologub's CV which was acquired by an Australian newspaper, stated that she worked in the office of then Cork North-Central TD Bernard Allen and later Willie Penrose, the former Labour TD, in the Longford-Westmeath constituency.

The Australian media also reported that she worked for the National Space Centre in Midleton, Co Cork between 2011 and 2017.
