Ireland Report / Story
On the night of Wednesday the 14th of September 2022 a fireball was seen by many people in Northern Ireland and Scotland shooting across the sky.

With almost 800 reports about the object in the night sky being sent to the UK Meteor Network, reports started to come in from approximately 9pm on Wednesday night.

Using video footage from many different locations from members of the public, scientists analysed the data, determining that the object would have been seen for a maximum of 20 seconds and "was definitely a meteor", adding "we are now 100% confident this was a small part of an asteroid".

In an updated tweet from the UK Meteor Network read, "It [the meteor] came on an asteroidal orbit and entered the atmosphere at 14.2 km/s."

"The observed portion of the trajectory covered over 300 km."

"If any meteorites did fall, they ended up in the ocean."
