Increase of 2 Probable Cases - Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children Latest Update from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) - 31st August 2022

There has been 2 new probable cases of hepatitis in children of unknown cause since the update on the 24th of August 2022 from the HPSC.

This increase in 2 cases brings the total probable cases from 26 to 28 on the 31st of August 2022.

All probable cases are in children between the ages of 0 and 12 years of age, 27 of the 28 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.

There is still no single virus or source that can be identified to point to the cause of these cases of hepatitis in children.
