On the 4th of August 1990, two young men who were working as chefs at a hotel in Pitlochry were out driving at about 9pm after a long day working in the kitchen, they drove approximately 21 kilometres, heading north along the A9 to Calvine for a walk in the Cairngorms.

Very soon into their walk they spotted a huge object that looked solid in shape and estimated as approximately 100 feet in length, reported to have been slightly hovering in the sky, the two mean took cover and hid in some bushes.

A few minutes later the men reported seeing a jet aircraft approach the object and circled the object before proceeding off away from the object.

At this stage one of the men took out a camera and took a photo just before the object reportedly shot straight up and disappeared into the sky.

The two men passed their photo onto the Daily Record to print a story but the media outlet never did and instead passed the photo onto the Ministry of Defence and with that the photo vanished.

Retired RAF officer Craig Lindsay in the man to release this photo to the public after 32 years of the Calvine photo being suppressed by the UK Ministry of Defence.

Mr. Lindsay said, "I have been for waiting for someone to contact about this for more than 30 years,".

"As a press officer for Scotland, I dealt with many UFO reports but most were just of lights in the sky. It was obvious this one was different. When I asked what sort of noise it had made, the man said, 'It didn't make any noise at all.' Up to that point I wasn't treating it very seriously but when he said it was silent, I suddenly realised there is no aircraft that I know of that is silent."

Mr. Lindsay said he visited the Ministry of Defence later the same year to find the photo blown up on an office wall.

He said, "I asked how they were getting on. They said it was being investigated. I was told to 'leave it to London'… they asked me not to get involved, so I have done exactly that,".

"The years passed and gradually I just forgot about the print in my drawer. Now I hope the two witnesses will come forward and tell their own stories."

Sparse Ministry of Defence papers on the Calvine sighting were declassified, but the names of the photographer (and Craig Lindsay) were removed from the file under Data Protection laws. Normally, these details would have been released after 30 years, in this case on the 1st of January 2020 but the Ministry of Defence and The National Archives continue to insist they must be kept secret for another 54 years, until 2076 due to "privacy concerns".
