'Potentially Hazardous' Asteroid Will Skim Past Earth on Thursday 28th April 2022, says NASA

A huge, 'potentially hazardous' asteroid that is estimated to be twice the size of the Empire State building is set to fly past Earth today, the 28th of April 2022 according to NASA.

The asteroid is called 418135 (2008 AG33) and has an estimated diameter of between 1,150 feet to 2,560 feet and will make its fly by of Earth at an approximate speed of 37,400 km/h.

The asteroid at it's closet point will be approximately be 3.2 million kilometres from Earth which translates to approximately eight times the average distance between the Moon and Earth.

NASA flags any space object that comes within 193 million kilometres of Earth as a 'near Earth object' or NEO and any fast moving object within 7.5 million kilometres as 'potentially hazardous'.
