Disappearance
Monday 11th, November 2024
A man in his fifties was arrested this morning in Co Kildare in connection with the long-unsolved murder of Jo Jo Dullard, who has been missing for nearly three decades.
The arrest marks the first in the case, which was elevated from a missing persons investigation to a murder inquiry four years ago. The individual is currently being held at a Garda station in County Kildare on suspicion of murder.
Authorities are also conducting searches at a property and land in Co Kildare as part of the ongoing investigation. This development follows renewed efforts by Gardaí to gather information about Dullard's disappearance, which took place on November 9, 1995.
On that evening, the 21 year old Dullard travelled to Dublin, where she spent time socialising at Bruxelles Bar on Harry Street. After missing her last bus home to Kilkenny, she boarded a bus at 10 p.m. to Naas, Co Kildare, intending to hitchhike the remaining distance to Callan, Co Kilkenny.
Dullard secured a lift from Naas to the slip road on the M9 motorway at Kilcullen, Co Kildare. At approximately 11:15 p.m., she hailed another ride to Moone, Co Kildare. In Moone, she made a telephone call to her friend Mary Cullinan at 11:37 p.m., during which she mentioned that a car had stopped for her and that she was about to take the lift. This call represents the last known contact with Dullard.
The following day, on Friday, November 10, 1995, Dullard's sister, Kathleen, reported her missing, prompting a missing persons investigation. Over the years, Gardaí have maintained a sustained investigation into her disappearance, managed by the team based at Naas Garda Station. The case is currently under review by the Serious Crime Review Team within the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
In November 2020, marking the 25th anniversary of her disappearance, Gardaí confirmed that Dullard's case had been reclassified as a murder investigation. They expressed confidence that serious harm was inflicted upon her on or about the night of November 9, 1995.
The arrest brings renewed hope to Dullard's family and friends, who have long sought answers regarding her tragic disappearance. Gardaí continue to investigate all leads as the case moves forward.
